Ellacor: A Non-Surgical Solution for Skin Laxity
When addressing facial skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging, treatment options generally involve either adding volume (fillers) or removing excess skin (facelift). A facelift is a more invasive procedure, while fillers are best for minimal correction. Ellacor provides a middle-ground option—a minimally invasive treatment that effectively tightens skin and reduces laxity. It is FDA-cleared for the lower face and around the mouth, areas that have traditionally been difficult to treat.

Microneedling and micro-coring may seem similar, but they work differently. Both stimulate collagen production by creating micro-wounds in the skin. However, microneedling punctures the skin with solid needles, triggering a healing response, while Ellacor uses hollow needles to remove micro-cores of skin. This key difference allows Ellacor to reduce skin volume while stimulating collagen, resulting in firmer, tighter skin without the need for surgery.
How Does Ellacor Work?
Ellacor’s hollow needles create precise micro-cores in the skin, and a vacuum removes these tiny sections of tissue. The device systematically moves in a grid pattern, removing up to 8% of the skin’s volume in a single session. This process not only tightens the skin but also initiates collagen production, improving skin texture and firmness over time.
What to Expect During Treatment
A local anesthetic numbs the treatment area, ensuring patient comfort. The Ellacor handpiece moves methodically across the skin, performing micro-coring in a precise pattern. Patients may experience pinpoint bleeding, but this is minimal and stops quickly. No stitches or bandages are required, as the micro-cores close naturally before you leave the office.
Recovery and Aftercare
Patients can expect redness and swelling for a few days post-treatment. The skin should be covered with ointment for 1-2 days, and makeup should be avoided for one week. While some may notice a subtle grid pattern on the skin, this fades over time and can be covered with makeup after the initial healing period.
Who is a Good Candidate for Ellacor?
Ellacor is FDA-cleared for patients ages 22 and up with Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV. It is not recommended for those on blood thinners, pregnant or nursing individuals, or those with a history of keloid scarring. For moderate to severe wrinkles, a series of three treatments is typically recommended, with procedures spaced 30 days apart.
