Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the eyelids to create a more refreshed, youthful look. Upper eyelid surgery typically involves removing extra skin that may be causing heaviness or obstructing vision. For the lower lids, things get a bit more personalized—different techniques are used to address puffiness, loose skin, or volume loss, all while avoiding that dreaded "hollowed out" or overcorrected look.
A common approach for lower lid surgery involves removing or repositioning fat through a small incision inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), which avoids an external scar. This can be combined with laser resurfacing to tighten and smooth the skin. In some cases, I may recommend adding fat transfer to the cheek area to restore lost volume for a more balanced result.
If you’re someone who already struggles with dry eyes (especially here in Colorado), has prominent eyes, or has had LASIK, we may need to take a few extra steps. I often suggest a pre-op evaluation with an ophthalmologist to ensure your eyes will handle the surgery well. The goal isn’t just to make your eyes look younger—it’s to help you look refreshed, rested, and still very much you.
